The Passionfruit was Great!
for solo French horn
ca. 3’30”
The Passionfruit was Great! (2020) for solo French Horn is a short "encore piece" written for my good friend Samuel Himes. He loves Snarky Puppy (and so do I, but perhaps not to his extent when he uploaded a video of himself playing the groove to Atchafalaya on to YouTube which now, at the time of writing, has 76k views and counting (no I'm not jealous)), so I incorporated aspects of that jazz/pop fusion sound and harmonic language in this piece. The title comes from a line our friends overheard him say at Fritos Batidos in Ann Arbor when he was trying to flirt with the cashier. I had a lot of fun writing this piece, and I hope Sam does too while performing it.
The Passionfruit was Great! was commissioned by Samuel Himes.
