The Lord’s Prayer
for unaccompanied TTBB choir
ca. 4’00”
The Lord’s Prayer was commissioned by the Diocesan School Old Boys’ Association Choir, directed by Ronnie Kay-yen Cheng, for their trip to Japan to attend the Sing ‘n’ Pray Kobe Festival. The Lord’s Prayer is a prayer that holds a special place in my heart, as students in my secondary school had to recite it every morning during assembly. It was an experience that generations of alumni had gone through, and I hope the piece would, besides its obvious religious message, can conjure up some nostalgia and bittersweet memories from the members’ teenage years.
Text:
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory.
For ever and ever.
Amen.
