Now Our Lord was Bound for Glory

hymn for unaccompanied SATB choir and congregation
ca. 4’45”

Now Our Lord was Bound for Glory (2020) is a hymn written for unaccompanied SATB choir, with the congregation participating in the choruses. This piece makes use of delicate dissonances and a simple, lyrical melody in the verses to highlight the humility in Lois Jecklin's text, and bursts into a joyful, triumphant tune in the choruses, each more decorated and exciting than the last.

Now Our Lord was Bound for Glory was commissioned by Lois Jecklin for Christ Church Georgetown; Dr. Thomas P. Smith, music director.

Text:

Now Our Lord was Bound for Glory by Lois Jecklin

Now our Lord was bound for glory
But beneath his bleeding feet
Lay our world in its’ sad story
Far from any glory street.

But to lift us up was why he came
To forgive us all our sin
To show a way to enter in
And sing with Him in glory.

Let us all now sing His praise
To our Savior voices raise
Lift the banner with His name
For He bore away our shame
As He rose up to glory

In His nature are we made
So let us face life unafraid.
We are bound for glory!
